The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has increased the fine against Nasarawa United to N6 million after fans of the club attacked a player of Plateau United on their turf.
The club had earlier been charged for breaching the Framework & Rules of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) in the course of their fixture against Plateau United on Sunday.
During the game, Plateau United FC’s attacker, Vincent Temitope, was allegedly attacked by an irate, knife-wielding fan.
In a statement, the NPFL said the Lafia-based club failed to provide adequate and effective security, resulting in an unauthorised person gaining access to restricted areas and harassing Plateau United and the match officials.
The NPFL said Nasarawa United are also in breach of league rules following disturbance from their supporters that resulted in the attack of the away team.
It said, "Nasarawa United also failed to ensure proper conduct of their supporters, resulting in the assault of the away team.
"Nasarawa United further breached the NPFL25 rules when their supporters assaulted Plateau United player, Vincent Temitope, intending to cause grievous bodily harm.
"Following these breaches, Nasarawa Utd have been banished to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe to play their home matches for the rest of the season.
"Nasarawa United have been fined N1m each for failing to provide adequate security & ensuring the proper conduct of their supporters (totalling N2m).
"A N3m fine has been imposed on Nasarawa Utd for persistent breach of NPF25 Framework & Rules."
In an update, the NPFL said, "As a result of the events that occurred over the weekend in #NASPLA, during which Vincent Temitope was attacked by a fan, the Solid Miners have been fined a total of ₦6 million and ordered to play their remaining games in Gombe."
