Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr won't be signing Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface as widely reported.
This was disclosed on X by football transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano, on Thursday.
"Victor Boniface and Al Nassr, deal off. Nigerian striker won’t join the club, deal was advanced… but never done as Al Nassr never gave final green light," Romano said.
Boniface had been touted to be on his way to Al Nassr to join Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 24-year-old was expected to replace Brazilian Anderson Talisca who transferred to Fernabahce in Turkey.
A €70 million deal was reported to have been agreed between Al Nassr and Leverkusen while Boniface was no longer training with his German side.
The deal would have seen the Nigerian earn N23 billion annually, which would have made him one of the richest footballers in Africa.
With the deal off, Leverkusen will now be left to decided on shipping Boniface to another club or retaining the striker who also has English clubs interested in him.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso said Wednesday that Boniface is set to stay at the club despite leaving him out of the squad in his side's preparations for their 2-0 win over Sparta Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday.
According to the Spaniard on Tuesday, Boniface was left out due to talks with an unnamed club.
"He will train again tomorrow. I believe he is staying with us," Alonso said when asked about Boniface after the win over Sparta. "So I have to say that I am satisfied, I am happy."
He hinted that Boniface who just returned from an injury could play Sunday against TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
He added: "He is comfortable here, so I don't believe that this is a big stress for him."
