Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has stated that Nigerian international Victor Boniface will be available for their UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.
Leverkusen will travel to the Wanda Metropolitano in the penultimate game of the UCL league format.
Boniface is set to make his return to the squad for the Bundesliga champions after sustaining a thigh injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles in November.
The 25-year-old has since missed 12 games across all competitions for the club, but Alonso believes that he will be available for selection after returning to full training.
“We trained again this morning and then we decided that Victor Boniface can go on the UCL trip to Madrid with the team,” Alonso told a press conference.
“He is getting better and better and he will be in the squad tomorrow (today). This is very positive news for all of us and of course for him. Boni is feeling good and it’s great that he is back with us.”
Boniface netted eight goals in 15 appearances across all competitions prior to his injury.
