Nigeria's Women's Basketball Team, D'Tigress, will take on France in their second group game at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games today (Thursday, August 1).
The African champions delivered a stellar performance in their opening game against Australia at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium on Monday, July 29.
D'Tigress beat the Opals 75-62, ending a 20-year wait for a win at the Olympic Games.
Ranked 12th in the world, the queens of Nigerian basketball are preparing for fiercely contested game against the hosts as they aim for another historic feat by chasing their first consecutive win at the Olympics.
Coach Rena Wakama is expected to field the same team that defeated Australia, who are ranked third in the world.
The starting five of Ezinne Kalu, team captain Amy Okonkwo, Elizabeth Balogun, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah, and Promise Amukamara are all expected to lead the team to the court.
Speaking after their historic victory over the Opals, coach Wakama sent a clear message to their opponents.
“We’ve come a long way, and we’re not stopping for anybody,” Wakama said.
“This victory is just the beginning. We respect all our opponents, but we fear none. Our sights are set on the gold, and we will fight for it with everything we have.”
The game will kick off at 4:15 pm.
