In the wake of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) search for a competent head coach to take charge of the Super Eagles, John Mikel Obi has recommended a former Chelsea player for the role.
The Super Eagles coaching role continues to dominate conversations in football circles following the NFF’s botched agreement with German tactician Bruno Labbadia, despite issuing an official statement of his appointment.
The NFF is yet to replace Finidi George after the former international stepped down from his role as substantive head coach of the three-time African champions after just 46 days in charge.
Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi disclosed that he had reached out to former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet, who recently left his role as head coach of Greece following the expiration of his contract.
Obi believes that Poyet will receive strong support from the NFF and also get the chance to work with some of the best players in the world.
The former Uruguayan international, who featured for the Blues from 1997 to 2001, boasts a wealth of managerial experience from England to France and Greece.
Poyet has coached teams like Brighton, Betis, and Bordeaux, among other clubs.
