The Black Stars of Ghana could be heading to Nigeria for the remainder of their home matches in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This comes in the wake of CAF’s decision to ban the use of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, which hosts the Black Stars’ home matches.
The governing body of African football cited the porous pitch, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover, among other issues, to declare the venue unfit to host international matches.
Other stadiums in Ghana, including the Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium, reportedly face similar issues.
In light of this, CAF has directed the Ghana FA to find an alternative venue for their upcoming AFCON qualifier against Sudan in October.
Ghanaian media outlet myjoyonline.com reports that the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo has emerged as an alternative option for the four-time African champions.
Other options under consideration include the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix, both in Côte d’Ivoire, as well as Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium in Douala and the Berkane Municipal Stadium in Morocco.
The prospect of hosting the Super Eagles’ archrivals in Nigeria has garnered several reactions from Nigerians on social media.
