Chuba Akpom joined the ranks of Nigerian players who scored on their Ligue 1 debut with a goal against Le Havre.
The 29-year-old came off the bench to score a consolation goal in Lille's 2-1 loss to Le Havre on Sunday, February 9.
Akpom became the fourth Nigerian international to achieve this feat, following in the footsteps of Terem Moffi, Moses Simon, and Victor Osimhen.
His goal earned praise from his new boss, Bruno Genesio.
“Scoring is always a good sign for a striker. Chuba was opportunistic on that play. He still needs time to adapt to our system and understand what we expect from him,” he said.
“His goal will boost his confidence and hopefully be a valuable asset for us in the final stretch of the season.”
Akpom joined Lille on a loan deal from Ajax for the remainder of the campaign.
