A section of social media users have been reacting to the arrest of the former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency picked the former vice-presidential running mate for alleged
diversion of N1.3 trillion 13% derivation fund from the federation account between 2015 and 2023.

His arrest was confirmed by an EFCC source to the press on Monday, November 4.

The news of his arrest has since sent shock waves across social media, with Nigerians reacting differently.

Reports indicate Okowa was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when he was reported to the Port Harcourt Directorate of the EFCC on the invitation of investigators handling his matter.

The former governor was alleged to have failed to render accounts of the funds, as well as another N40 billion he allegedly claimed he used to acquire shares in UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas.

Specifically, Okowa allegedly bought shares worth N40 billion in one of the major banks in the country, representing 8% equity to float the offshore LNG. The funds were alleged to be used for other purposes.

Investigators are also looking into the diversion of funds by the former governor to acquire estates in Abuja and Asaba in Delta State.

Obinnajnr01 commented: Efcc is good in levelling Bogus allegations on past politicians whom aren't in the good books of the current administration and they don't persecute them to the latter in court..Okowa was civil to answer the efcc on invitation. He's being arrested and detained. My question is, where is Yahaya Bello? If Efcc fails to arrest him, the commission should be disbanded with immediate effect.
