Edo Election: Why voting has been delayed in polling areas

The Edo governorship election has been delayed because security agents are late in arriving at the polling venue.

The election, which was supposed to begin at 8:30 am, experienced delays in some polling units due to the late arrival of security agents who were assigned to transport electoral officials' items to their locations.

Channels Television correspondents who are covering the election indicated that the INEC ad-hoc staff were at their respective polling areas hours before scheduled start time.

Edo is one of the eight states where off-season governorship elections are held due to litigations and court judgments. The other states include Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced its readiness to conduct the election and ensure a fair playing field for all 17 candidates competing for the office.

There are 4,519 Polling Units in the state, with voting scheduled to take place at each unit.
