Thugs on Friday caused rowdiness at the court where the Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sat to hear the case challenging the victory of Governor Monday Okpebholo at the September 21, 2024, election.
The thugs gathered at that entrance of the court and turned the scene into a free for all in the presence of gun-wielding policemen who couldn't do much to restore calm.
A similar occurrence took place on Wednesday at the Edo State High Court complex, Sapele Road, Benin, the state capital, when thugs used gunshots to scare off the people who had come to witness the tribunal.
Meanwhile, Friday's sitting saw the tribunal admit in evidence all 1004 documentary evidence tendered by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
This followed his petition, marked EPT/ED/GOV/02/2024, challenging the declaration of Okpebholo as Governor of Edo State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Despite objects by Okpebholo's counsel, the tribunal admitted the documents which consists of Certified True Copies(CTC) of INEC declaration of results forms EC8A-E and LGA summary of results used for the conduct of the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State.
Oral evidence is now expected from Ighodalo's camp following the admittance of evidence against Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress.
