An improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly went off in a housing estate under construction in Dwala, Borno State.
The explosion occurred around 1pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, when Governor Babagana Umar Zulum and his Yobe counterpart, Mai Mala Buni, were commissioning housing estates in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
Dwala is located 175 kilometres from Maiduguri, a place affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Borno State is among several states affected by terrorism, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people over the years. In response, Governor Zulum announced his plan to reduce the number of out-of-school children.
He mentioned that over the past five years, the figures have plummeted from 2.2 million to 700,000. Governor Zulum made this statement during the inauguration of Government Secondary School Mairi on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also pledged to eradicate insecurity by 2024; however, the issue persists. As a result, Nigerians are eager to see the federal government address this problem.
