We have gone past that, Obi can never be Atiku's running mate - Atiku's ally told

An X user has dismissed widespread speculation that Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, would complement the strength of Atiku Abubakar as his running mate in the 2027 elections.

The user, @EzirimKennedy, responded to a post by political commentator and PDP supporter Abdul-Aziz Na'ibi Abubakar, clarifying that Obi would not consider being Atiku’s running mate.

He wrote: "What happened to Okowa? Leave Peter Obi; he can never be Atiku's running mate. We have gone past that stage. Peter Obi for president."

Earlier, Na'ibi Abubakar had suggested that only a repeat of the 2019 PDP presidential ticket—featuring Atiku and Obi—could defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

"Any political party coalition that doesn't feature @atiku and @PeterObi as president and running mate is a total waste of time," his post read.

Despite running together on the PDP ticket in 2019, Atiku and Obi contested under different parties in 2023, leading to their defeat. Political analysts believe the PDP could have regained power if both men had remained on the same ticket.

While there has been speculation about a possible coalition between the Labour Party and the PDP ahead of 2027, both parties denied any discussions of a joint ticket in December 2024.

The rumors gained traction after photos of Atiku hosting Obi for breakfast at his residence in Adamawa State went viral. Atiku later shared a video of their meeting on his official X account, captioned:

"It is breakfast time with my friend, #PeterObi, in the ‘land of beauty.'"
