Social media users have applauded Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for being steadfast in the face of several political obstacles that almost disrupted the Local Government Elections scheduled in the state.

Fubara swore in 23 of the newly elected council chairmen of the 23 local government areas, presenting them with their certificates of return given by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Adolphus Enebeli.

The exercise, however, was met with heightened tension as pro-Wike groups in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the police attempted to stall the process in the days leading up to election day.

Addressing the new chairmen at the swearing-in ceremony, Fubara urged them to emulate his approach to governance and to be patient and calculative.

Fubara has not only been hailed by Nigerians, but members of the PDP including the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, have also commended him for his audacity in the face of adversity.

Atiku Abubakar, in a statement on Sunday, October 6, said the electorates remain resolute in the face of oppression, praising Fubara for his unwavering commitment to the people's interests.

On his part, Mohammed stated that Fubara has become a "specimen for democratic studies in Nigeria."
