Women dressed in all white have taken to the streets of Port Harcourt to protest in support of the state of emergency declared in Rivers State last month.
The women could be seen waving placards with different inscriptions, some saying "state of emergency in Rivers is constitutional."
The protest held just a few days after some women dressed in black stormed the streets of Port Harcourt against the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu's declaration suspended Siminalayi Fubara as governor. His deputy and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were also suspended by the President.
According to Tinubu, he made the decision to quench the political crisis that was rocking the state, which was already leading to the vandalisation of oil installations in Rivers.
Reacting, an X user, @AbioyeAdedokun1 said, "All in white clothing and police protecting and leading the protesters
Obviously planned, This government would usually deploy police to silence protesters when we are protesting for the right thing."
@AdetunjiAdewolu said, "The division in Rivers shows just how deep the political crisis runs. Voices on both sides must be heard."
@GunubohT said, "So protest can be this organized, and not being shot at with tear gas or disrupted by the Nigerian police who have penchant for violent disruption of peaceful protests.
"It shows they are sponsored by the government to create the impression that some people are in support of their emergency rule and suspension and/or removal of a democratically elected governor of a state.
"This is a mess in a supposed democratic system, and sadly, there are people who actually don’t really care about what becomes of the country so far as money lines up their pockets, and money bags exchange hands.
"The country is doomed under APC leadership. Besides, the Renew Hope Mantra’s political strategy is built around chaos, and it seeks to push the country into two extreme positions. Without chaos, they wouldn’t be able to win; chaos is their winning strategy, and they don’t mind trampling on the constitution so long as they are the ones with the power."
