Ned Nwoko, the federal lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Legit, the move is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The lawmaker, who hails from Idumuje Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, officially defected on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. During the event, Nwoko expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

“I believe in the vision of the Renewed Hope agenda under President Tinubu. It aligns with the aspirations of Nigerians,” Nwoko stated.

His defection means that all three senators representing Delta State, including Ede Dafinone and Joel Onowakpo Thomas, are now members of the APC.

Nwoko’s Director of Communications, Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, disclosed that the decision to leave the PDP stemmed from frustration over the party’s inability to support Nwoko’s developmental goals for the Anioma people. This was revealed in a statement issued on Sunday, January 19, and reported by The Sun.

Okolugbo explained that Nwoko held several consultative meetings with stakeholders, supporters, and constituents in Delta North before making the move.

“Senator Ned Nwoko came prepared to serve and deliver the dividends of good governance to the Anioma people, but regrettably, he has not enjoyed the cooperation and support of his party, the PDP, in pursuing this vision,” she said.

The statement highlighted specific grievances, including the lack of support for the Okpai Independent Power Plant (IPP) step-down project, which would have provided electricity to over 60 communities, and the Ogwashi-Uku Dam project aimed at ensuring water supply in the region.

Okolugbo added that Nwoko’s decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to fulfill his campaign promises to his constituents.

“This decision is not just about politics but about delivering on his electoral promises,” she emphasized.
