The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has urged politicians of the northern stock to forget any presidential ambition they might harbour in 2027 stressing that President Bola Tinubu will serve his two terms before passing the barton to another candidate.
He made this known when he hosted leaders and members of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre (PBAT Media Centre) and Tinubu Northern Youth Forum (TNYF) at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Ganduje, a former Kano State governor indicated that any aspiration from the north must be treated as an illusion.
He comments follow a subtle remark by former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, who suggested in a post on his verified X handle that the North could treat Tinubu’s administration in 2027 the same way it did to President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
He stressed that the ruling party will follow the zoning arrangement, ensuring a fair power rotation between the North and the South.
“When a leader from the North governed for eight years, we pushed for the next president to come from the South,” Ganduje stated.
“With hard work and cooperation from Nigerians, we achieved that. Our president is from the South and, inshallah, will complete his second term in 2027. After that, power will return to the North.”
Acknowledging the country’s ongoing challenges, Ganduje attributed them to deep-rooted issues that require significant corrective measures.
“There is no doubt that many things went wrong over a long period, and fixing them requires serious intervention,” he said.
He expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s policies, stating that positive changes, particularly in the economy, were already becoming evident.
