Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has criticized his fellow Ghanaian artists for performing for low pay abroad.
The dancehall artist expressed his disappointment with his colleagues for accepting low pay for performances overseas in an interview with Rants, Bants, and Confessions on Glitch Africa.
Shatta Wale pointed out that many of his colleagues travel abroad and only receive $5k or $7k for their performances in an attempt to impress their fans. He advised them to take a cue from Nigerian musicians who are gaining international recognition.
According to Shatta Wale, Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid are the 'big three,' with Rema recently joining the list to make it the 'big four.'
He stated, “You see those festivals they go to, where they get paid $5000 or $7000, I wouldn’t go there. They are trying to show off to Ghanaians that they are performing for a foreign audience. Now it's Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid's time. Even Rema has been added to the list. They should take a step back and learn from them.”
Many social media users agreed with the singer's remarks and praised him for his honesty.
