Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James has addressed criticism following a video of singer Teni Apata performing at her recent wedding anniversary celebration.

On Monday, February 10, 2025, the celebrity fashion designer and her husband, Femi Atere, celebrated their one year anniversary with a fun celebration that quickly gained popularity.

However, when Veekee James disclosed that Afrobeat musician Teni attended the celebration and gave a performance, everything changed. Many criticized her as a hypocrite and questioned her lifestyle as a devout Christian for inviting a secular artist to her celebration.

Reacting, doyinsolaak wrote; “I listen I don’t judge. You most probably love her as a human being because Jesus baby but worldly music. Nah, Veekee you can’t serve two Master’s even you should know that if you’re a Jesus Baby through and through.”

Another user lolarfro reacted: “It’s giving lukewarmness. well, God will have mercy on all of us.” a_global_voice also disagreed saying: “Jesus baby daughter of Zion Even that Kingdom influencer you mentioned…I totally agree. But I’m not sure you’re referring to the Kingdom of the Holy and Just God in Heaven.”

Veekee James eventually responded to the criticism by stating that her love for Teni does not diminish her commitment to Christ.

In an Instagram post, she wrote, “I’m a Jesus baby

I’m a daughter of Zion

I’m a kingdom influencer

And YES

Loveeeee Teni Makanaki.”
