The Zone 9 headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in Umuahia has denied allegations that they detained Emeka Rollas, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
SP Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, the command's public relations officer, dismissed the report as inaccurate.
The release stated, “The attention of zone 9 headquarters, Umuahia, has been drawn to false and misleading reports circulating online, alleging that the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria was arrested by officers of the Zonal Command.
While these reports are baseless and untrue, it is important to clarify the facts: On January 9, 2025, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria held a meeting at a certain location in Umuahia.
During the meeting, a chaotic argument broke out, necessitating police intervention to restore calm and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Due to the proximity of the meeting venue to the Zone 9 Headquarters, the parties involved were brought to the command to de-escalate the situation."
Chukwudera clarified that on January 9, 2025, the AGN President held a meeting in Umuahia where a heated argument occurred, prompting police intervention to maintain peace. The individuals involved were taken to the Zone 9 Headquarters to defuse the situation due to its proximity.
He mentioned that the Guild President had previously filed a complaint against specific members, which was already under investigation by the command prior to the meeting. AIG Suleiman Yusuf spoke with both the President and the disgruntled members, after which everyone left without any arrests or intimidation.
The command's spokesperson emphasized that no one, including the Guild President, was detained.
