A former presidential adviser, Reno Omokri has come under fire from Nigerian comedian Funny Bone for his recent online jab at Labour Party presidential contender Peter Obi in 2023.

Peter Obi's declaration that he would stay married even if his wife cheated on him was mocked by Omokri. He brought up a scandal in which Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) of Equatorial Guinea, was caught on camera having sex with several women, including the sister of the president of Equatorial Guinea, his brother's wife, and a cousin.

Given this controversy, Reno Omokri questioned how someone who doesn't care about his wife's adultery could be worried about corruption in public office. He also considered the implications of the bank's name and wondered if the president puts public monies ahead of his wife's allegiance.

He said, “If you don’t care if your wife is having affairs outside, how will you care if your officials are stealing government money? Look at the matter rationally. Are you saying that you will value government money more than your wife’s fidelity? Then why did you name your bank Fidelity Bank? If that is what fidelity means to you, then is our money safe in your bank?

A president who does not care if his wife has affairs outside will breed many Balthazar Ebang Engongas around him. It is a very indecent thing to have said and is indicative of disrespect for the sanctity of marriage. Such a person lacks the moral authority to be the President of Nigeria and may want to move to a country where his lax morals align with their way of life.

To even say such a thing in public is shameful!”.

In response, Nigerian comedian Funny Bone criticized Reno Omokri noting that it was below his standards.

He wrote, “Reno!!

Too low for your standards.
Too low. Learn to let some things slide.
