Europa League winners Atalanta BC have been dealt a major blow ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona on Wednesday, January 29.
The Bergamo-based club has reportedly been hit with the news of an injury to their star man Ademola Lookman.
According to Italian publication Tutto Atalanta, the reigning African Footballer of the Year has sustained a tendon injury at training.
The report added that Lookman sustained a distraction injury to his right knee, impacting the lateral joint area.
The 27-year-old is likely to be sidelined for at least four weeks.
The Super Eagles striker is however expected to undergo surgery to determine the extent of the injury.
Lookman has maintained his brilliant form from last season, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Atalanta faces a daunting prospect in their bid to secure automatic qualification to the last 16 as they travel to Barcelona in the final match of the UCL league phase.
