Rangers defender Leon Balogun has disclosed that he has not retired from international football and is still ready to play for the Super Eagles.

The 36-year-old has been out of the Super Eagles team for close to two years, largely due to fitness concerns.

Balogun's last appearance for the Super Eagles came in June 2023 during Nigeria's 10-0 mauling of Sao Tome and Principe in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In a recent interaction with Brila FM, the former Brighton defender stated that he is ready to represent the national team.

“It’s not that I’ve not accepted an invitation. Unfortunately, right before the World Cup break, I suffered an injury that was supposed to last a few weeks but didn’t go the way it was supposed to,” he told Brila FM.

“I just couldn’t come; I was not fit yet, and after I got fit, then I relapsed. But since then, I haven’t had a lengthy injury spell.

“I have always been available. I’ve never said that I retired from international football, and I think the people who need to know are aware that I’m still very much willing and ambitious to represent the national team.”

Balogun has won 46 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring one goal.
