Following the Super Eagles' disappointing draw against Zimbabwe in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, fans have taken to social media to express their displeasure with the team’s poor performance.

The Super Eagles were pegged back in stoppage time after Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 74th minute to give the three-time African champions the lead against the Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Tuesday, March 25.

The 1-1 draw leaves the 2013 AFCON winners in fourth position in Group C with just seven points after six matches in the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles now risk potentially missing a second consecutive FIFA World Cup as they sit six points adrift of group leaders South Africa.

Amid the backlash from fans, one significant moment from the game that has raised eyebrows was head coach Eric Chelle’s reaction on the touchline.

The 47-year-old was seen squatting on the sidelines with his hands on his head during the tense moments of the game. At one point, the Malian tactician dropped his head and knelt down with both hands on the ground.

On a lighter note, some fans have trolled the former Mali coach for recreating a viral meme from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire, where he reacted similarly after his side bottled a one-goal lead against the hosts in the quarterfinal.
