The legendary Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has weighed in on the never-ending debate about who is the greatest player of all time between Argentine megastar Lionel Messi and Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite their departure from mainstream European football, the two rivals still dominate many conversations in football circles.
In a fun fact session with Pulse, the 51-year-old former Super Eagles star named the Inter Miami captain as his greatest player of all time (GOAT).
“They are both GOATs, by the way, but my personal GOAT is Messi because he looks more natural to me,” the former Bolton captain noted.
The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry dates back to 2009 when the two football greats faced off in the UEFA Champions League final between Manchester United and Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
The little Argentine emerged the victor, scoring a superb header in the second half to seal a remarkable 2-0 victory for the Blaugranas.
The debate intensified when Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a record-breaking transfer to Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid later in the summer of 2009.
Messi and Ronaldo competed in La Liga for nine seasons before the Portuguese international left Los Blancos to join Juventus in 2018.
