The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still on the hunt for the next head coach of the Super Eagles following their botched agreement with Bruno Labbadia.
Despite the NFF announcing the German tactician as the next gaffer for the Super Eagles, Labbadia rejected the NFF’s offer due to contractual disagreements.
The three-time African champions have been without a substantive coach following the resignation of Finidi George in June.
The 53-year-old resigned from the Super Eagles job after just two matches in charge of the team following Nigeria’s disappointing results against South Africa and Benin Republic in the World Cup qualifiers.
In a latest development, it has emerged that the NFF is inching closer to reaching an agreement with another German tactician for the vacant Super Eagles role.
Nigerian outlet, Guardian NG, reports that the NFF is currently in talks with Winfried Schafer, who could be appointed by the end of the month.
Schafer, 74, has coached national teams like Cameroon, Thailand, and Jamaica.
The German tactician last managed Qatari club Al-Khor in 2021.
