Gernot Rohr, head coach of Benin Republic, has sounded a word of caution to the newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Bruno Labbadia, following his appointment.

The German tactician was officially announced as the new head coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday, August 28.

The 58-year-old will replace Finidi George, who resigned from the job in just 46 days after his substantive appointment.

Speaking on the appointment of his fellow countryman, Rohr, who is Nigeria's longest-serving head coach, described Labbadia as an experienced coach.

He, however, warned the former Wolfsburg manager about how Nigeria treats coaches.

“He’s a very good coach, I hope he’s well treated by the NFF and Nigerian fans. He has very good experience in the Bundesliga, I hope he quickly finds his way in Nigeria, which is a different environment,” the 71-year-old said as quoted by OwnGoalNigeria

“I wish him all the best, but not against us (Benin),” he stated.

Labbadia's first test will be against Gernot Rohr's Benin Republic side in the AFCON qualifiers on Saturday, September 7.

The Super Eagles will travel away to Kigali to face Rwanda in their next encounter three days later.

Rohr, who was in charge of the Super Eagles from 2016 to 2021 led the Squirrels to a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in their last encounter in the World Cup qualifiers in June.
