Nigeria's 4x400m men's team has been disqualified from the finals event despite placing second in their heat.

The quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene and Chidi Okezie sealed a place in the final in heat 1 behind France.

They ran a season's best time of 2:59.81.

They were, however, disqualified for stepping on the line in their heat.

This means Belgium will move to second position, with South Africa stepping up to third position.

The quartet hopes of emulating the 2000 and 2004 teams that won gold and bronze in Sydney and Athens has now been dashed.
