More than 74% of Nigerians lack confidence in Finidi George's ability to lead the Super Eagles, according to a poll by renowned Arise TV broadcaster Rufai Oseni.

Finidi, who appointed as Nigeria's new substantive head coach to succeed José Peseiro after the Portuguese gaffer left his role in February has endured a difficult start to his campaign.

After guiding the team in the March international friendlies against Ghana and Mali, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) settled on the former Enyimba coach, ending their long hunt for Peseiro's successor.

The former Real Betis star was handed a one-year contract by the NFF and tasked with qualifying the 2023 AFCON finalists for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the next edition of the AFCON in Morocco.

Despite only serving as assistant during the first two World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, Finidi has come under mounting pressure for failing to beat South Africa at home and losing to Benin Republic in Ivory Coast, leaving Nigeria's World Cup ambitions hanging in the balance.

Following these two disappointing results, many fans have called for the former international's immediate dismissal as head coach of the national team.

When asked "Do you believe in Finidi?" 1,610 out of the total 2,164 respondents said "No," representing approximately 74.4% of the total.

Only 554 Nigerians responded "Yes," representing 25.6% of the total respondents.

The poll took place between June 11, 2024, and June 12.

Meanwhile, in a latest development, Victor Ikpeba, a technical committee member of the NFF, has disclosed that the soccer house is fully behind Finidi George to turn the team's fortunes around.
