Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has extended his congratulations to Finidi George on his appointment as head coach of the Super Eagles.

The 53-year-old was officially unveiled as the new gaffer of the 2023 AFCON finalist by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at its secretariat in Abuja on Monday, May 13.

He will succeed Portuguese tactician José Peseiro, who left his role after the African Cup of Nations in February.

Finidi was initially appointed on an interim basis to take charge of the Super Eagles during the last international break in March.

The former Ajax player led the team in their last two friendly encounters against Ghana and Mali, where the team won 2-1 and lost 2-0 respectively.

Ndidi, who missed the last AFCON due to injury, has praised the decision to appoint the former Enyimba coach, describing him as an exceptional coach.

“Finidi is an exceptional coach. We worked with him in our two friendly games in Morocco, and he impressed us with the way he handled the matches against Ghana and Mali, without any assistant coaches, just him and his other officials. It is not easy for one man to handle all that. We are confident with him. He is humble and remarkable. Congratulations to him, and we look forward to what the future holds,” the Foxes midfielder told Complete Sports.

The Nigerian international also emphasized the significance of the Super Eagles' upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

“We understand the importance of those two games to us, and we won’t let them slip away. They will be tough matches, not easy ones, but we are determined to ensure that we do not falter again,” he added.

The Super Eagles will play against South Africa on June 7th before traveling to face Benin Republic three days later.
