Promoter David Higgins has said Anthony Joshua won't want a fight with his boxer, Joseph Parker because he's aware of how much of a menace he is.
Higgins concluded after Joshua watched Parker knockout Martin Bakole who was drafted to fight him as replacement for sick Daniel Dubois.
Higgins also revealed that he doubts that there will be another fixture to produce a fight between Parker and Dubois, just as he doubts Joshua will have s rematch with Dubois.
“Joe would jump in with AJ in a heartbeat but I reckon AJ wouldn’t take the fight,” Higgins told Sky Sports. That’s my view.
“I think AJ is a nice guy and he’s had a good career but I think in recent times he hasn’t looked comfortable in the ring, particularly in that last fight. He didn’t want to be there.
“The way that Joseph is fighting, it would be a very risky call by him and his handlers to jump in the ring with Parker. Most boxers take the lower risk option, except for Joseph Parker. He takes the highest risk and the toughest option.”
Higgins said this despite Parker losing on point to Joshua in 2018.
However, his confidence in the former WBO world champion may be due to his recent wins against Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Bakole.
“I think fight by fight, the last three, Joseph is establishing more credibility, more menace and fight by fight, they will all be going, ‘This fighter is dangerous.’
“After the other day, they’ll all be going, ‘He really is dangerous.”
“We’ll see what happens next. We’ll wait and see what the Saudi authorities and Queensberry offer next and we’ll go from there.
“Joseph would like to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Four months. He doesn’t mess around, he just wants to keep going.
“Anywhere, it would be ideal in the summer.”
Meanwhile, boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, has said Joshua is eager for a blockbuster fight with Tyson Fury.
He also said Joshua is open to a rematch with Dubois who knocked him out at Wembley Stadium last year.
According to Hearn, Joshua was inspired by Agit Kabayel’s win over Zhilei Zhang and Parker’s victory against Bakole in Saudi Arabia.
“The whole night got him (Joshua) very excited about coming back,” Matchroom CEO Hearn told Sky Sports.
“I think the right thing to do would be to rematch Daniel Dubois, I think that’s what he would like to do, to have another shot at the world heavyweight championship.”
