Former Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro has been nominated for the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) best coach award.

The Portuguese gaffer guided the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire.

The three-time African champions finished as runners-up after losing 2-1 to the hosts in what was a thrilling final in Abidjan.

The 64-year-old was shortlisted among some of the great coaches in world football, including the likes of Spain's Luis de la Fuente, France's Didier Deschamps, Germany's Julian Nagelsmann, and former England coach Gareth Southgate, among others.

Despite guiding Nigeria to its first AFCON final since the 2013 triumph in South Africa, Peseiro left his role as head coach of the Super Eagles after failing to agree on new terms with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
