Hakimi hopes to win Africa's best player award ahead of Lookman

Moroccan defender, Achraf Hakimi hopes he can win the coveted 2024 African Footballer of the Year award ahead of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman.

The PSG star who is among the five nominees for the year said in a chat via maliactu.net that he hopes to be rewarded for his efforts.

“It’s a source of pride and satisfaction, especially knowing that the work I’ve been doing for a long time will be rewarded with this nomination,” he told Brut via maliactu.net.

“It’s true that it’s an important trophy on an individual level, but I’m happy to be here,

“I hope I can win it, but if not, I’m happy to be here, and it makes me want to keep working”

Hakimi will compete against Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman who is regarded as the favorite to succeed his compatriot, Victor Osimhen.

Lookman has had a stellar season with Atalanta including winning the 2023 Europa League.

He also finished the 14th best player in the 2024 Ballon d’Or in Paris, and just last week, he was also listed in a short list of 30 for the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards men’s best player prize to be held in Dubai on December 29.

The 2024 African Footballer of the Year award will be held in Moroccan city Marrakesh on December 16.
