Former Super Eagles defender Solomon Kwambe has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint French coach Herve Renard as the next Super Eagles head coach.
Renard, currently in charge of the France women's football team, has been linked to the vacant role after announcing he will step down as manager after the Paris Olympics.
Despite the NFF denying reports that they are considering Renard for the position, Kwambe believes the Frenchman is the ideal candidate.
"Football is all about results. If Finidi George had achieved the desired results during his time in charge of the Super Eagles, there wouldn't have been circumstances leading to his resignation," Kwambe said, as quoted by OwnGoalNigeria.
"Whether you're a foreign coach or an indigenous coach, it's the result that matters at the end of the day, not your origin or country of origin. The last successful Super Eagles coach was Stephen Keshi, an indigenous manager. Ever since, we've struggled to qualify for tournaments."
Herve Renard, 55, boasts extensive experience coaching African teams, including Angola, Ivory Coast, Zambia, and Morocco. He is a two-time AFCON winner, having clinched the title with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015.
