Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has emerged as a new candidate for the vacant Super Eagles role, according to reports.

Nigerian sports outlet OwnGoalNigeria reports that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has contacted the former France international about the possibility of taking over as the new head coach of the three-time African champions.

Despite no concrete agreement between the NFF and the former AC Milan and Manchester City midfielder, the report suggests that the response has been positive.

Vieira was in charge of Premier League side Crystal Palace from 2021 to 2023.

His last coaching job was with Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg, where he was in charge from July 2023.

Despite signing a three-year deal with the French club, Vieira stepped down as head coach by mutual consent last month.

The NFF is still on the hunt for a new substantive head coach for the Super Eagles after Finidi George stepped down from the role in June after just two games in charge.
