Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has won the Sam English Bowl at Rangers for being the highest goalscorer for the club this season, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 2024-25 season has been a topsy-turvy one for Dessers and his Rangers side. It was a difficult start to the campaign for Dessers, as he was the subject of many transfer talks.
The former US Cremonese forward was also constantly maligned by the fans and was even booed at the Ibrox Stadium.
However, Dessers did not break, as he put up a solid front. The 30-year-old striker has been the first-choice striker since joining the club last season, but he lost his place to Hamza Igamane around November last year. But that did not last long, as he reclaimed his shirt.
This season, Dessers has contributed 23 goals and seven assists in 50 appearances for the Gers. But unfortunately, his goals have not been enough to land them silverware.
Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish Cup in the earlier rounds, they lost the League Cup final to Celtic, and lost to Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League quarterfinal. Celtic have also pipped them to the Scottish Premiership title.
Rangers held their award night on Sunday, and Dessers left with a prize. He took home the Sam English Bowl for being the highest goalscorer.
Other notable award winners on the night were Nico Raskin, who was named the Player of the Season, Hamza Igamane for goal of the season, and James Tavernier for reaching 500 games.
What’s next for Cyriel Dessers?
Cyriel Dessers has already made his intentions clear. He does not want to leave the Ibrox Stadium in the summer as he wants to win silverware with the club.
“I’m very keen. I came here two summers ago with the ambition to fight for trophies, to win trophies,” Dessers said before the Scottish Premiership game against St. Mirren last weekend.
“I’m sitting here, we had two amazing runs in Europe, but we only won a trophy, and I don’t think that’s enough.
“I’m really hungry to win more trophies, more silver at this club. So, for me, I’m very keen. But obviously, like I say, there’s going to be a lot happening, but I’m looking forward to that as well.”
Dessers will look to end the campaign on a high with Rangers with four Scottish Premiership games left to play.
