Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has provided a positive update on Nigerian striker Victor Boniface's injury situation.

Boniface sustained a thigh injury while on international duty with Nigeria and has been sidelined for a couple of weeks.

The 23-year-old is set to miss three Bundesliga matches, including games against Heidenheim, Union Berlin, and RB Leipzig.

The former Royale SG striker has registered eight goals in 15 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga title holders in the current campaign.

Speaking on Boniface's injury, Alonso disclosed that the Super Eagles striker is working towards his recovery but did not provide any timelines for his return.

"We have hope. He is on the right track, but it is too early to say when he will be back," Alonso stated.

In Boniface's absence, Austrian international Patrick Schick has stepped up into the role, scoring five goals in his last three matches for the club.
