Minister of Sports and Youth Development, John Enoh, has disclosed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is insisting that the Super Eagles of Nigeria should go ahead and play their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.
The Super Eagles have threatened to boycott the game and return to Nigeria, as disclosed in a statement by team captain William Troost-Ekong.
This comes following the team's poor treatment after arriving at the airport in Libya. The Super Eagles team and officials have been stranded at Al Abraq Airport since touching down on Sunday night.
In a tweeted statement, Sports Minister John Enoh disclosed that CAF's position focuses on taking the necessary action to get the game to happen on Tuesday, October 15.
“This morning, I was on a conference call with the CAF President and CAF Secretary General.
"While the CAF President’s concern seems to be what to do to get the national team to participate in tomorrow’s match.
"I have instead informed CAF that the concern of the Government and people of Nigeria is first, the safety of the team and their safe return, urging that CAF should focus on working with us to achieve this.
"There must be a serious adverse consequence to the Libyan football federation for this unspeakable behavior."
