Chelsea's first Champions League winning coach endorses Osimhen signing

Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has urged the club to pursue the signing of Victor Osimhen in the summer.

Osimhen, 26, came close to joining the Blues last summer but the deal fell through on transfer deadline day due to disagreement over the player's contract.

The Nigerian international was compelled to consider a move to the Turkish Super Lig after falling out with his parent club Napoli.

As the season draws to an end, the Super Eagles striker has been linked with a move again to Stamford Bridge following his explosive form with Galatasaray.

Osimhen has racked up a remarkable 26 goals and five assists in 31 competitive matches for the Turkish champions.

Di Matteo, who won Chelsea's first UEFA Champions League title in Munich back in 2012 believes either the Super Eagles striker or Newcastle United's Alexander Isak will add more fire power to the Blues attack.

“I still think, though, Chelsea need a striker who is going to score them 25 goals a season – if you want to win the league, or challenge, that’s what you need,” he was quoted by the Mirror.

“That’s not a criticism of Jackson, though; I also think another striker would allow you the option to sometimes play with two up-front.

“Up front, there are a couple of options you could go for. Alexander Isak at Newcastle – he’s been playing in the Premier League for a while now, so he knows very much what the league is about.

“Then you’ve got Victor Osimhen, who has already been linked with the club before, and he’s a top, top striker. I’d be looking at either of those two, personally.”
