Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been recognized as the Minister of the Year at the prestigious THISDAY Awards 2025.

Wike triumphed over other notable contenders, including Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Mohammed Ali-Pate, Minister of Health and Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

While accepting the award, Wike said humorously: "Nigerians would have found it partial if I did not win Minister of the Year. I am sure everyone is happy I won."

The minister was joined at the event by his wife, Hon. Justice Eberechi Nyesom Wike, along with his G-5 allies, past and present senators, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, influential Rivers politicians, and other dignitaries.

Despite being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike is widely celebrated for his transformative infrastructural projects in Abuja, which have significantly enhanced the capital city.

Notably, land administration under his leadership has undergone remarkable improvements. Land allottees can now obtain their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) within two weeks of payment.

For perspective, between 2010 and 2023, a total of 8,400 C-of-Os were printed and signed. However, under Wike’s administration, 5,841 C-of-Os have already been signed, leaving fewer than 3,000 to surpass the total achieved in eight years.

Wike's contributions to Abuja's development have solidified his reputation as a results-driven leader, earning him well-deserved recognition at the THISDAY Awards.
