The China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has begun reconstruction work on the Magboro-Makogi Road in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
This followed a promise by Governor Dapo Abiodun at the flag-off of the 2024 Rice Harvesting Season, which took place in Igboko village, in August 2024.
Abiodun, who drove on the road himself, said the reconstruction will open the neighbourhood to more development, adding that his administration aims to acquire 2,000 hectares for rice cultivation in the region.
The road, which branches off from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, moves from Magboro to Makogi and also connects parts of Ibafo through Gas Line Road.
MyNigeria noticed the terrible state of the road which was abandoned halfway by a previous contractor after drainages were constructed.
During the dry season, the road is usually terrible for users and owners of shops along the way because of the dust blown into the atmosphere by moving vehicles.
The road becomes a nightmare during raining season because of potholes, leading to a hike in transport fares.
MyNigeria on Saturday noticed that some men putting on CCECC uniforms were clearing the drainages which had become clogged with dirt.
Their activity began exactly two weeks after the CCECC contractor paid a visit to the area to assess the level of work to be done.
No date has been fixed for the conclusion of the reconstruction work on the road.
