President Bola Tinubu has sent his congratulatory message to Ademola Lookman, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and the Super Falcons for sweeping awards in different categories at the 2024 CAF Awards on Monday, December 16.
Lookman won the most prestigious award of the night after being crowned the African Footballer of the Year in the male category.
The 27-year-old succeeded his Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen, who won the award last year.
The Atalanta forward has become the sixth Nigerian male footballer to win the prestigious award.
Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was also voted the African Female Best Goalkeeper of the Year for the second consecutive time.
The Super Falcons were named the Female National Team of the Year at the awards ceremony.
In a tweeted statement, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, congratulated all the Nigerian winners while expressing hope that the awards will inspire young and upcoming athletes.
“These athletes embody the essential Nigerian spirit. They signpost the best in us as a nation. Let no one ever write us off. I am incredibly proud of them. Thank you for making Nigeria proud and keeping our flag flying. Thank you for winning medals for Nigeria both at home and abroad. You will win more in the future.”
