There is massive celebration in Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has started paying the N85,000 minimum wage.

In July of this year, President Bola Tinubu approved a national minimum wage of N70,000 after numerous complaints from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) due to the economic challenges in the country.

Due to the hardships faced by the residents of Rivers State, Fubara announced that the new minimum wage for the state workers would be N85,000, with assurance that the state would pay using its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

A video circulating on social media shows some teachers in Rivers State dancing and singing with joy after receiving their November salaries with the new wage.

The teachers expressed their gratitude to Fubara for fulfilling his promise to the people and praised him with a song.

The video has received several reactions on social media.

@Bluekels: Dear Lord, Thank you for using Wike's mistake to bring about a new dawn for civil servants & the people of Rivers. The civil servants of Rivers truly deserve even a minimum wage of #500,000 to compensate for the eight years of lack of promotion under the Wike's administration
