The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has cautioned residents of the Southeast to disregard the sit-at-home order issued by Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic in Exile.
IPOB in a statement released on Monday, October 21, 2024, stated that the order was not given by the Biafra group.
Reports were circulating asking residents to observe the sit-at-home order from Monday, October 21, to Tuesday, October 22. Audio and video messages were asking parents to keep their children at home and away from the streets.
Shop owners, market men and women were also warned, adding that failure to comply with the order would be dealt with.
However, IPOB has asked residents to ignore the order and go about their daily activities. IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful said, “IPOB did not declare any sit-at-home order on October 21 and 22.
“The illegal order is from criminal elements and Finland-based infiltrators who are not our members.
Biafrans must understand that IPOB does not declare unnecessary sit-at-home orders.
We have since suspended it and anybody declaring it is a criminal element that should be ignored.
We didn’t want to talk about it again to avoid giving undue popularity to the inconsequential order from Finland-based infiltrators,” Powerful said.
