God will judge you – Fubara tells lawyers, judges

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his frustration with the actions of some judges and lawyers who, he claims, are aware of the truth but manipulate the law to please their paymasters.

Fubara accused some judges of accepting bribes to pervert justice. He made these remarks during the opening of the 2024/2025 Legal Year and Re-Dedication Service at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Anglican Communion, Diobu, Port Harcourt, on Thursday, October 17.

The Rivers Governor said, “Some of you, claiming to be legal luminaries, know the truth but still go on air to pacify your paymasters, twisting the law upside down… God will judge you.”

According to Fubara, the judges are viewed as a higher authority, with people expecting them to deliver fair judgments without fear or favour, but he believes that is not always the case.

“Judges, you are the God we see. Your position is to stand and defend us, to tell the truth to whoever comes before you.”

Fubara commended the Rivers State Judiciary, especially the High Court Divisions, for their unwavering consistent support in his administration. He also encouraged the judiciary to be brave in their work, acknowledging the threats and intimidation they face.

“Be courageous. Very soon, this whole thing will be over. Nothing lasts forever.”
