Human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has labelled Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as one of the most corrupt politicians in Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview, Sowore made this known while reacting to the political crisis happening in Rivers State involving the immediate past governor Wike and his successor Sim Fubara.
In Sowore’s analysis, he accused Fubara of helping Wike embezzle money as his accountant general during his tenure as governor.
He mentioned that Sowore used his resources to mobilise his own support, created a new party and ensured they all win in the local government council election, thereby ridding the state of Wike’s men and giving him more leverage in the state.
He described the recently concluded LGA election as undemocratic. Sharing his thoughts, Sowore said, “How did Rivers State get to where it is? It is because corrupt people were allowed to lead that state and to run riot.
The last governor of the place, Wike, one of the most corrupt individuals in this country got a political promotion to become Minister of FCT, one of the strongest and most powerful ministries in this country.
And he turns on his former accountant general of finance, who was stealing money together, who is now governor. And that one uses the resources of the state to mobilise his own support. The police are involved, the army takes the position and the judiciary disgraces itself.
He himself produces results of candidates of a party not heard of before. We all know that what is going on there is not democracy; its some confusion presented as progress.”
