The Ikwerre Local Government Secretariat in Rivers State has been set on fire by suspected thugs.

The video that has emerged was published on Instagram by GoldmyneTV. Individuals around the burning building fled the wild flames but took their phones to record from a safer distance.

The incident comes after it was reported that the Eleme Local Government Area secretariat was burnt down.

No one has so far taken responsibility for the arson.

Earlier, newly elected chairman, Brain Gokpa, along with his councilors and supporters went to their office only to discover the complex was on fire.

The incidents that have occurred over the last two days began as a result of the results of the local government council election where the Action Peoples Party (APP) swept 22 of the 23 seats.
