Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the closing periods in some polling units and wards that began the process behind schedule.
Ighodalo appealed in an interview with the press before he cast his vote in the election.
Voting didn't begin as scheduled as electoral materials were yet to be transported to their destination even after 8:30 am.
"We are over two hours delayed because the process hasn't even started. So the only fair thing would be for closure to be extended by 2 or 3 hours that we have delayed. That is a fair thing so that everybody can get to vote," he told the press.
In the Edo South Senatorial District, election materials and electoral officials were still at the RAC center after 8 am on Saturday.
It was gathered that while some ad hoc officials complained that they were yet to get paid, others they said had already been paid.
They insisted that they would not move to their assigned polling units unless they were paid.
At three polling units visited, there were no indications that the election was holding due absence of materials and officials at polling units at Oba Market, Zebayo Street and Plymouth Road.
There were also no signs to identify the polling units; some police officers who were deployed to the polling units were seen looking for the units to which they were assigned.
