Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has sent a message to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, following his arrest over claims of cyberbullying.
Speaking after the Federal High Court in Abuja granted his bail application on Thursday, Sowore stated that he will continue fighting for Nigeria's freedom from corrupt leaders.
Although the police had included the submission of Sowore’s international passport as part of his bail conditions, the human rights activist said he remains resolute, stating that they cannot silence him or make him disappear.
This comes after Justice Musa Suleiman Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail in the amount of N10 million with one surety of the same amount. The court also required Sowore to deposit his passport and provide an affidavit of means.
Sowore attributed his prosecution by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to a blatant abuse of power, assuring his supporters that he will not back down.
He further expressed his gratitude to his supporters, thanking them for their unwavering support.
Sowore said, "We are very resolute in our desire to make sure that this country is extricated from the hands of mediocre who are holding the country to ransom.
“We are very committed to ensure that the welfare of the people of this is paramount us and we are doing it because elections are coming.
“We are not emergency activists; the ones that started yesterday - El-Rufai, Amaechi and the rest of them. We do this as a matter of conviction and it is our body clock that reminds us about injustice not election calendars.
"So we know that the police is interested with my passport when the judge asked me to deposit my passport. I have only one passport - the green Nigerian passport. You can take away the passport but you can't take away my right, you can't shut me up, you cannot make me disappear; it is not possible.
“And I want to assure you that as we continue to defeat our enemies, these people will be defeated as well.
"I am sure that some of you were here when Buhari charged me in 2019 with treason and I told you that Buhari will be disgraced out of office though he completed his tenure but he is a shadow of himself, now dancing with musicians and spraying money in wherever he is.
“He is now giving testimonies around the world so that he can earn estacode and then collect. So the same thing will be fall anybody that has destroyed this country.
"They will never enjoy their retirements and the same thing applies to all these guys.”
