Kayode Egbetokun, born on September 4, 1964, in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria, is the current Inspector General of Police (IGP). He was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, succeeding Usman Alkali Baba.
Egbetokun has a strong educational background, holding a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Lagos and a Master's degree in Engineering Analysis from Delta State University.
Egbetokun began his career in the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
Over the years, he has held various positions within the force, including serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) before his appointment as IGP. His career has been marked by his commitment to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force.
As the 22nd Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun has focused on ensuring the neutrality of the police force and maintaining law and order across Nigeria.
He has made significant decisions, such as ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from certain areas to ensure the smooth functioning of democratic institutions.
