Austin Opara, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, says the disagreement between Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) began when the former Rivers State governor lost the party's presidential ticket.

Atiku Abubakar, who won the party's ticket in 2023, defeating several other contenders in the primaries that many believed should have been zoned to the south.

The rift between both men has cast a dark cloud over the party and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leading to the formation of the G5 group, which includes Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

Wike led these governors and other stakeholders in the PDP to work against Atiku in the 2023 presidential election.

As the fracas within the party and Rivers turn sour, Opara said: "Our point of disagreement with Gov. Wike was when he lost the primaries to Atiku and decided to support the APC instead of supporting PDP all the way, we decided to support PDP all the way for Presidency and Governorship so clearly it was Gov Wike who betrayed PDP and betrayed all of us. Rivers state needs a Governor that will work for us not a man who Adolf Hitler is his mentor."
